Meet Dr. Matthew McCullough
I got into dentistry as a child because I always had an interest in the medical field. And I really enjoyed learning about the sciences as a child. It really interested me. And I started to get into pharmacy and medicine and pursued that. And then, I found dentistry once I got to college. So, I went to my home dentist I worked with. He worked with me as a child. And he mentored me and showed me what dentistry was all about. And I was able to learn a lot from him as a child, and it really, really got me interested in dentistry. And I wanted to be able to help people and be involved in the community as well. So, that’s what I was looking for.
The most rewarding part about dentistry is being able to help people every day as they come in. People are nervous whenever they come in. We understand that. And we are able to help them, you know, get over those fears and anxieties and get them out of pain if they’re in pain. If they have a broken tooth, we can fix that. We can even change the patients’ smiles. And we are able to really, really make an impact on their daily lives. And that’s very fulfilling.
So, I actually went to college here in Greenville at Greenville University. And then, I went to dental school in Alton at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. I graduated in the year 2000 from that school. And then, I moved back to Greenville right after dental school, bought a practice from a retiring doctor, Dr. Donald Hayes, and we expanded that practice, grew. And we’ve been in our current facility for about 17 years.
Each year, we take a lot of continuing education so that we can increase our knowledge and stay on top of the latest technology and advancements in dentistry. And that allows us, even here in Greenville, to provide the latest technology to our patients and community.
